Umba

He has one of the most distinctive voices and infectious personalities on the Trinidad and Tobago radio airwaves.

Umba was born and grew up in Picton Laventille, growing up, Umba and his brother was always interested in music. They would always find entertainment in experimenting and playing around with their parents’ music system.

Incidentally while Umba was developing and harnessing his musical talents, his father was in the process of bringing some friends from Jamaica to Trinidad to build a Sound System that would become the popular Matsimela Sounds.

Umba’s mom was the brainchild in the coining of the name Matsimela Sounds, Matsimela is African in origin and means Roots and Culture.

Naturally Umba became a fundamental member of Matsimela Sounds, he started playing music when he was eight years, and has since been fortunate to have a flourishing career.

For 13 years now Umba has been on air at 96.1 WEFM, he has played at events and clubs across Trinidad and Tobago. He also took his talents across the sea to the Caribbean, Europe and North America.

When he’s not entertaining the masses, Umba enjoys just kicking it at home playing FIFA and NBA on his PS3.

He loves his Mac ‘n’ Cheese and Redbull and Hennessey is his drink of choice.

Playing at the World Clash in Amazura Queens NY back in 2003; stands out to Umba as his favorite memory playing or performing.

Umba loves music 100 percent; he lives life humbly and wisely. ZEEIT!
