Richard Trumpet

"God, family, friends and passion in that order." Those are the driving forces behind the well grounded Richard Trumpet; who is described by many as one of the most humble men in the business. Radio personality, DJ, Promoter, Songwriter and singer are among the many talents of this down to earth individual. The dream to dominate the entertainment business in Trinidad and Tobago, started off as a whim, just a “what if” that would become the career path for this talented man. He was just liming and listening to radio with his friend one day, and in the middle of ‘ole talking’ an idea was born. They were passionate about music; they had musical knowledge and would acquire the technical skill needed. "Why not become DJs?"

In the beginning, Trumpet along with some friends pooled their resources, limited as they were, and purchased some second hand DJ equipment. With their tools of the trade, they started playing music under the name KLS Sounds. KLS being an acronym for Keeping Ladies Satisfied. It started out with six guys and trickled down to Richard and Damion.

The turning point in Richard’s career came when he met with a near fatal vehicular accident while on the way to spin at a party with the second half of KLS Damion.

During the recuperation period after the accident, Richard got an epiphany. He decided that music was his future, his goal was to make it in the business and he made up his mind to pursue it more vigorously.

After his full recovery, Richard took a giant leap of faith. He quite his 8-4 job in pursuit of his dream, and even in the wee hours of the morning while he played music on air sometimes surviving on just a Dixie biscuit guava flavor and a chubby he never looked back with regret.

Eventually, after much persistence and hard work, Richard Trumpet landed a job on 96.1 WEFM as a radio announcer. It was here he settled and acquired his knowledge of the business; all the while becoming one of the most loved and appreciated voices on radio in the country.

In January 2007, Trumpet in a joint venture with family and friends formed KLS ENTERTAINMENT LIMITED, a management and promotions company.

As an artiste he has a diverse range and an uncanny ability to switch from one octave and tone to another with ease. Trumpet’s music speaks to the heart of his audience.

Richard Trumpet has come a long way and achieved a great lot for himself, and never hesitates to share his knowledge of the business with young up and coming DJs and Mic men.

Though he has quickly gained a huge following, Trumpet can be quoted as saying, “Everyone is my friend, I never use the word fan, a fan is a device that circulates the air.”
