The impression you may have of Ricardo “Cardo” Padia when you first see him is a quiet, shy and soft-spoken individual. However this Business Systems Analyst is just the opposite especially when a microphone is powered on. His voice and overall presence in the studio or the clubs exude confidence and high energy. Growing up in Woodbrook, Cardo was a member of the General Sound Unit (GSU) and became the sound system’s main mic-man in 2003. He was also on the cast of Reggae Sunday at Club Coconuts until its closure in 2005.
Cardo always had dreams of becoming a part of the 96.1 WEFM family. In 2005 Cardo and GSU took part in a competition on 96.1 WEFM in an attempt to land the sound system on the station. However they were unsuccessful and Cardo decided to sideline the entertainment world and concentrate on completing his Degree in Computing.
After the completion of his studies in 2007, Cardo was encouraged by friends and family to get back into entertainment and also “try his hands” at radio again. Through the guidance and advice of Clyde D Outlaw, Cardo managed to land the Thursday Overnight spot in mid 2008. By early 2009 he was also offered the Saturday Overnight spot bringing “energy and vibes” to late night listeners.
At present Cardo gets Trinidad and Tobago out of bed early on a Saturday morning, holding down F1-Radiodynamcis with X-Bass. He also stirs up excitement voicing at some of the most popular clubs in the country. However his journey is far from over as he strives to make a greater impact on radio and aspires to make a name for himself across the globe.
