Gyron Quan

Growing up, Gyron Quan always had a knack for imitating voices; little did he know this skill would become one of his greatest assets as a Presenter. This former Belmont boy’s Secondary school student grew up in Barataria. He was the average playful kid, always following in the footsteps of his elder brother. He had a mischievous side to him, including stealing mangoes off the neighbours’ tree. Quan was always an athletic youth, playing both football and cricket; however during his years attending Belmont Boy’s Secondary he developed a passion for music.

At the tender age of twelve, one of his first real influences in music was his neighbour, ‘Fidel,’ who was the first person Quan knew with turn tables. Another of his major influences at that time was his good friend, Christian. Fidel and Christian were always competing with each other and this fuelled a desire within Quan to become the best.

In 2004, Gyron Quan took the initiative and jump started his career after an encounter with Jerry Wonder from Copper Shot Disco. Jeremy Francis/Jerry Wonder and Copper Shot Disco was a sound system based in Jamaica, and Jerry Wonder said to Quan, "Meh like how yuh ah gwan." That meeting with Jerry Wonder was the beginning of a beautiful alliance as Jerry Wonder was in need of a Selector, who would turn out to be none other than Gyron Quan.

Quan experienced a high point in his career back in 2005 when he took the UWI fetes by storm creating a hype never seen before. In 2002 he had in informal introduction to the business when he worked with Full Circle Productions an animation company based in Trinidad and Tobago. Working at Full Circle Productions gave him an outlet to show off his talents as he voiced for various characters in a carton called ‘Sick Talk’ which went on to win the Caribbean Star Anima award that year.

As for his dreams and aspirations, Quan wants to be an inspiration to the youth in Trinidad and Tobago. He wants to do positive things in the community and be able to encourage the youth who are interested in pursuing careers in his field. He wants to one day have a beautiful wife and a family, and to venture into entrepreneurship.

He appreciates a good laugh. He also loves curry and a cold beer. He’s recently started to explore his singing talent and is definitely interested in the dynamics of production. When he’s not in the studio, he is still on the hustle working as a Quality Development Supervisor by day and working as a part time barber as well. And when Quan isn’t busy working, he likes to relax and drink a beer or play ball.

His motivation comes from the Most High because without him nothing is possible. Every time Quan achieves something as small as it might be it gives him the zeal to push forward and aspire to even greater things.

Gyron Quan is not one who gets nervous because he loves what he does and it comes naturally to him. He usually goes into the crowd and feed off their energy and vibes to put him in the frame of mind before a gig. He is generally a cool and easy-going, simple guy who is just going after his dreams. ;He works hard and he plays hard because he always wants the best.
